Imagine if every purchase you made could help guarantee a veteran a job? That’s the goal of Handmade by Heroes, a company whose bracelets have become a popular fashion trend over the past couple years.
Every item on the website is handmade by a disabled veteran. The program not only teaches necessary job skills to help with transition in to the civilian work force, but provides therapeutic work and an environment which helps veteran’s combat conditions such as PTSD, TBI and arthritis, according to the company’s website.
Handmade by Heroes makes custom medical ID bracelets, sports apparel and key chains.
According to Handmade by Heroes, your purchases directly impact veterans through employment, empowerment and awareness.
“We work with several organizations in Colorado such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Army Wounded Warrior Program, Pikes Peak Workforce and the Rocky Mountain Human Services to provide an employment opportunity that caters to the needs of U.S. Military Veterans from past and present conflicts,” according to the company’s website. “We hire Veterans to make our products and we pay them per piece for their work. Our employment program requires Veterans to maintain a normal work schedule and follow guidelines. In an effort to intercept reclusive behavior, we encourage vets to socially engage with each other.”
Wanting to support the nation’s veterans with well-paying jobs, Andrea Robertson, the organization’s founder, said she created the company to raise awareness of the challenges our Veterans face.
“Our mission is to ease the transition from military to civilian culture and teach necessary job skills that empower out Nation’s heroes while raising awareness of the challenges that vets face,” Robertson says on the company website.
Homemade by Heroes now has an extensive product line of bracelets and other accessories. The company has launched a line of officially licensed sports accessories as well, so you can root for your home team and support veterans at the same time.
