Today is Veterans Day. On this extraordinary day, we should take a moment to pay our respect to the men and women who have served this great nation. While our country may be divided politically, days like today should be uniting.
The member of our armed services and their families sacrifice much in the name of freedom. Today we would like to acknowledge all the veterans who work here at Mortgages For America and SaveUniteg.org and thousands of veterans we serve annually.
Our philosophy is simple – Our Veterans sacrificed everything so we all can live a peaceful life. It is our duty as Americans to reward them throughout their life and that is exactly what Mortgages for America does.
The men and women who serve our country day-in and day-out put themselves under tremendous risk. One day a year to honor and celebrate them is the very least we can do.
Here are a few tips on how you can celebrate Veterans Day, even if you’re not a veteran:
Volunteer for Vets
Many non-profit organizations, especially those geared toward veterans, hold Veterans Day events and activities. Volunteering at these community functions is a great way to show vets that you appreciate their sacrifice. A good place to look for volunteer opportunities is http://www.volunteermatch.org/
Invest in Vets
If you own or manage a company that has employees, consider committing to hiring a certain number of veterans. These men and women are real assets with real-world experience that cannot be taught in a classroom. Here are a few organizations dedicated to helping veterans acclimate into civilian life:
- The Mission Continues
- Team Rubicon
- Team Red, White, and Blue
Support Veterans
Sometimes just attending a Veterans Day event or patronizing a veteran-owned business is enough to show your support. President John F. Kennedy once said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
Show your Gratitude
Everything we love and enjoy about American is possible thanks to a veteran. Those who served and sacrificed before us deserve our gratitude. Take some time this Veterans Day to spend time with family and friends who served in the military. Send an email or text to old acquaintances thanking them for their service. Let the vets in your life know you’re thankful for their contributions to our society.
