Website highlights discounts available to Veterans

Everyone loves a bargain. And now a veteran-run resource is making it easier for veterans and active-duty military to find out exactly what discounts are available to them at hundreds of thousands of business all across the United States. Many business offer discounts to veterans and active-duty military, but their policies are not always well known by either their customers or their employees.

That was a problem Terrence Thomas, a veteran of the U.S Navy, experienced all too often. When he’d ask about military discounts, more often than not, the employees were in the dark. So he set out to ensure all veterans are aware of the discounts offered by corporate America by starting the Military and Veteran Discount Center (MVDC).

Discounts on the site include:

  • Restaurants
  • Finance and insurance
  • Flight and hotel reservations
  • Auto repair
  • Cell phone carriers
  • Electronics
  • And much more

The website, created to provide up-to-date information on military discounts offered by stores, restaurants, transportation agencies and other businesses, also allows users to input discount information that’s currently missing.

Since many businesses do not advertise their military discounts, web sites like Military and Veteran Discount Center are useful tools for bargain hunters. The user-based functionality helps keep the site accurate and fresh.

“Our job is to save you time in figuring out who has discounts and more importantly, to save you money,” the web site boasts. “While we understand that companies are under no obligation to provide military discounts, (and we are grateful that they do) active duty personnel, reservists, retirees, veterans and spouses are entitled to accurate information about military discounts and veteran discounts. No one should have to pour through pages of pages of angry posts on message boards to determine their military discount eligibility.”

Founder Terrance is no stranger to building websites that help the military community; in 1998, he cofounded GI Bill Express, a site that linked veterans and military personnel with schools that provided discounts for the military community. That site was acquired by Military.com in 2000.
